Description:
The Red Capital Residence is a small (five rooms) exclusive hotel in the midst of Beijing's Dongai preserved heritage sanctum. If you've read anything about the hutong or the vanishing of it, then you'll know a little bit about these courtyards and how they've mostly been demolished to make way for high-rises and modern buildings. This gorgeous hotel is housed in one of these old courtyard homes and is appointed with period decor and chinoiserie. Totally unique in China, the Red Capital Residence is truly a special place.
Location:
In the midst of an active residential hutong, the Red Capital Residence allows you to feel like you actually live in Beijing. Wake up early and take a walk around the neighborhood and see Beijingers buying their breakfasts from street vendors and walking to buy fresh vegetables at the local market. The neighborhood is preserved and unique, while there used to be blocks and blocks of courtyard neighborhoods in old Beijing, these have almost all been bulldozed to make way for modern skyscrapers and shopping malls. Aside from the unique neighborhood aspect of the hotel, you are walking distance from major attractions.
Contact Details:
  • Address:No. 9 Dongsi Liutiao, Dongcheng District, Beijing, 100007

Accommodation:
The accommodation is as unique as the location. Don't expect big spacious international five-star rooms with a flat-screen at one end of the room and faux art on the walls. The five rooms are housed in renovated courtyard rooms and crammed with Chinese antiques and interesting period objects based on historical themes. There are two single "author's" suites and three double suites: the Chairman Suite and two Concubine's private courtyards. Each have their own bathrooms and face out on a shared open courtyard.
Facilities:
  • Lounge & Cigar Bar located below the hotel in a Cultural Revolution-era bomb shelter
  • Bar
  • Breakfast
  • Tour organization
  • Pick up service - call ahead and the hotel can arrange for you to be picked up at the train station or airport.
For Kids:
Children are welcome and the hotel can arrange for roll-away cots. Courtyard hotels are sometimes a great change for kids who need to be able to stretch their legs. Plus, they'll probably love exploring the neighborhood.
