The Bottom Line
Sadly, this restaurant has closed its doors. Check out other great Shanghai restaurants and book elsewhere. A very legitimate reason for visiting Shanghai is to eat. Mimosa Supperclub at Pier One is a new concept in a city that's full of fantastic restaurants and delicious food. The centerpiece to Pier One's entertainment complex including a hotel, nightclub and rooftop terrace, Mimosa presents dining at its finest.
Pros
  • New dining concept by Michelin starred Stefan Stiller boils down to a delightful meal
  • Tasting menu lets you sample multiple dishes, and doesn't leave you hungry
  • Feel like one of the beautiful people in this James Bond-like setting, a renovated Art Deco brewery
Cons
  • The location is a little difficult to find in an area that is currently under a lot of construction
  • Price. Your tummy will be happy but your wallet may feel abandoned.

Guide Review - Mimosa Supperclub, Pier One Building on Suzhou Creek, Shanghai
Housed in the old Art Deco Union Brewery built in 1934, Mimosa Supperclub is a bit out of the way in a newly developing zone on the Suzhou Creek but worth a visit.

Greeted by fluent and helpful staff, we were ushered to Mimosa's main bar to enjoy a cocktail. My partner perused the exhaustive wine list that includes seventeen champagne choices, while I perched at the white marble bar to take in the exuberantly retro yet futuristic decor. At once intimate and spacious, the decorators combined exposed brick and concrete with soft textures, cool colors and remarkable lighting - including water-filled lava lamps - for a very James Bond feel.

Seated later at a round banquette upholstered in white leather to complement the marble tables, we made difficult choices over the menu. Here, the food is certainly the centerpiece. Mimosa's "new concept" is a course-tasting menu made up of main ingredients served in threes. Bad things do not come in threes here. Opting for the four-course menu, we chose salmon or beef for starters, a soup second, black cod or lamb main and a chocolate trio for dessert. We reveled over a few bites-sized salmon roulade and steak tartar to the chocolate threesome finale.

In Shanghai, one doesn't always feel that you get what you pay for. At Mimosa Supperclub, the bill is not a bargain, ours was about 600 RMB (US$ 75) per person, but this included cocktails and wine. However, the meal and experience was worth every cent.
