Do I need a visa if I'm going to Hong Kong?

By Sara Naumann, About.com

Question: Do I need a visa if I'm going to Hong Kong?
Answer: Hong Kong has a visa free period for residents of many countries:
  • United Kingdom - 180 days
  • USA - 90 days
  • Australia - 90 days
  • Canada - 90 days
  • Singapore - 90 days
  • New Zealand - 90 days
  • India - 14 days
  • Germany - 90 days
For a full list of countries and the visa free period in Hong Kong, see Hong Kong Immigration's website.

If you are planning to stay outside the visa free period, then you will need a Hong Kong visa.

If you are traveling on to mainland China, you will need a Chinese visa.

If you started your trip in mainland China and plan to go back to China after your visit to Hong Kong, you will need a China re-entry visa.
