Dates: 1027-221BC
Notes: The Zhou dynastic period is subdivided into the Western (1027-770 BC) and Eastern (770-221) periods. The Eastern Zhou dynasty is further subdivided into the Spring and Autumn Period from 770-476BC and the Warring States Period from 475-221BC.
Related Reading: The Western Zhou rulers made their first capital city near present day Xi’an. The Eastern Zhou rulers moved their first capital city from near present day Xi’an east to Luoyang in Henan province. Teacher and scholar, Kong Fuzi, known in the West as Confucius, lived from 551-479 BC. His teachings and philosophy have survived and have unparalleled influence over Chinese culture.
