The foreign word “China” has its roots in this dynasty’s name, Qin. Weights and measures as well as the Chinese system of writing were standardized under Qin’s rule.

Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi united China after the Warring States Period and in the short time he reigned managed to construct two of China’s most famous historic monuments (at the cost of thousands of lives). His tomb, now called the Qin Shi Huang Terracotta Warriors & Horses Museum is on most visitors’ itineraries and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. He also began construction on what is known today as The Great Wall of China.
