Han Dynasty

By Sara Naumann, About.com

Dynastic Title: Han
Pronunciation: "hahn"
Dates: 206BC - AD 220
Notes: Han rule galvanized Chinese culture and many of today’s traditions have their roots in what was established during the long Han reign. Han rule, divided into West and East like the Zhou, was interrupted shortly by the short rule of a royal minister who usurped power from AD 9-24.
Related Reading: The Han rulers conquered the Qin and moved their new capital to Chang’an, just north of present day Xi’an. Just like the Zhous before them, the Eastern Han rulers moved their first capital city from near present day Xi’an east to Luoyang in Henan province.
