Where in Shanghai can you wake up, stay up, keep warm and buy Christmas gifts all in one go? Café del Volcán, that's where. I had the good luck to connect with co-founder/owner Nils Weisensee last week in his café on Yongkang Road where he introduced me to their mission and, more importantly, their delicious coffees.
At Café del Volcán, coffee is the star. You can sit (if you can find a spot in the tiny shop), but their mission is really to make coffee drinkers of us all. And their point is - you don't have to go out to have good coffee. They want you to drink it at home. They sell delicious beans and all the coffee-making accoutrements you'll need. And they deliver.
Their packaging is impeccable and so attractive, you'll find yourself thinking of all the people to whom coffee has suddenly become the perfect Christmas or Chinese New Year present. (They do a gorgeous gift box too.) Their signature roast is called Santa Rosa from a coffee plantation in Guatemala. But they also sell Yunnan coffee from Baoshan which might make a really lovely souvenir for a coffee lover back home.
