A few weeks ago I posted my pitiful story about how I missed the train to Hangzhou (and how accurate my MetroNav App is). The whole point of that planned trip was to hook up with Tracy Lesh and her Tea Tours. I managed to make it on Tuesday and it was worth the wait. (Note: I took a cab to the station this time and was 45 minutes early.)
Tracy Lesh is a freelance guide and a China enthusiast. Posted originally in Guangdong Province, she started taking Chinese lessons and learning about tea. When she and her family moved to Shanghai, she converted her passion and began sharing her knowledge with friends. Now she's a full-fledged guide doing tours and classes and you'd think she's been doing this for years.
Our group spent the day just outside Hangzhou where Longjing Tea is cultivated. We hiked into the plantation, picked tea buds, watched a Master Roaster hand-roast the tea leaves and then did a tasting on the multiple grades of Longjing Tea. I came away feeling not only refreshed, we were surrounded by green throughout the day, but understanding a great deal about tea.
