Planning for winter travel in China
Tuesday November 3, 2009
Just a few days ago I was sitting in the sunshine basking in our late October warm weather. Now, with snow in Beijing and cold temperatures here in Shanghai, those warm days seem like a distant memory. Winter's on it's way and if you'll be in China in December, January or February, you might want to start making some plans.
There are some fun festivals and events that should warm you up even in the coldest temperatures. And if you can't stand the cold, then there are plenty of locales across southern China that will help you defrost.

Hi there, I will be traveling with a group for 10 days beginning next Tuesday. ( it is an organized tour.) I’ve seen a couple of blogs about the snow… brrrr.
We will be mainly in Shanghai and Beijing. How warmly should we dress?
Hi Kristie, I advise you to bring enough to dress warmly. I assume you’ll be spending a good deal of time outdoors, especially in Beijing at the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, etc. I find the best way to dress is in layers so you can add if you’re cold, take off if you get warm. Quite often the day starts rather cold, but once you’re out, especially if it’s sunny, you’ll warm up.
Have a great trip!

I am going with smartours Dec 2-any suggestions about their optional tours?
Hi Deanna, I’m not familiar with Smart Tours so can’t really comment. Anyone else?
Best,
Sara
