Mmmmmm, Mooncakes.

Follow me on:

Ever since I read CityWeekend Shanghai’s article “Six Mooncakes You May Actually Want to Eat” last week, I can’t get the picture of Xinhualou’s delectable looking Eight Treasures mooncake out of my head. I’m obsessed and I don’t know why I haven’t gone to buy any. Perhaps the lines of people waiting to buy train tickets outside every local travel agency have put me off shopping for all things October-holiday related. (Authorities are predicting huge numbers of domestic travelers over the week-long holiday October 1-7 in which the Mid-Autumn or Mooncake Festival falls on the 3rd and the 60th anniversary of the founding of the PRC falls on the 1st.)

CityWeekend did a nice job rounding up six of Shanghai’s specialty mooncakes to give people an understanding of what they might be biting into this season. But to me, the traditional Xinhualou might hold the key to my mooncake desires.

Enough talk, off I go to Fuzhou Lu to buy some mooncakes.

I am currently guest-blogging at About.com's China Culture site while they look for a new guide (interested?) You can also find me on twitter .

We did a blog post on Chinese deserts a while back. “5 Chinese deserts you MUST try.” You should give it a read.

Hey,
just wanted to leave a quick comment. Love your blog, and am glad that people are out there showing China in such an honest way.
I personally love the country and the people and believe that if you only get one chance to visit another country in your lifetime then that country should be china.
