Sichuan Province: Nearly 6 Months After the Earthquake
Thursday October 30, 2008
It’s been nearly six months since Sichuan Province experienced a catastrophic earthquake measuring 7.9 and taking the lives of nearly 70,000 people. With the US Presidential Election and the world financial crisis at the forefront of news and the fact that disasters befall the innocent seemingly daily, it is easy to forget that millions of people in Sichuan Province are beginning to feel the effects of winter not in the comfort of their homes, but in temporary prefab housing in the best cases.
It’s never too late to donate to organizations continuing relief efforts in the region. Shanghai’s city government recently called on locals to donate unused bedding and warm clothes. But monetary donations are still the best way to help victims of the earthquake.
Here are just a few of many places to make donations and make a difference.
- Habitat for Humanity
- International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies
- Half the Sky Foundation - helps orphans specifically
- Mercy Corps

Is there any association in singapore I can gain access to donate?
