PRC National Day: October 1st

Wednesday October 1, 2008
The anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China is today, October 1st. National Day used to be celebrated by massive military parades and state banquets. These days, workers receive holidays around October 1st, usually resulting in a week-long holiday period where people travel home to see family or go abroad for a vacation. Travel fares rise significantly during this peak travel period, so if you're in China, beware.

Still, October is a lovely time to visit, so even if you are in China during the holidays, brave the crowds and enjoy the weather.
