Destination Tibet: Just How Do You Get There?

If you’re planning to add Tibet to your China Itinerary, it’s important to know How to Get to Lhasa. “Don’t you just hop on a plane from Beijing?” asks the itinerant vacationer. Well, no, it’s not that simple.

First off, you’ll need special permissions from the Tibetan Tourism Bureau organized in advance. So be sure you make those arrangements with your travel agent before you leave for China, or leave yourself plenty of time once in China to arrange it.

Secondly, while there are three ways to get to Tibet, there are limited routes by air, rail and road. So, you’ll need to factor that into your trip planning as well. You could get into a lot of sticky situations by referring to Tibet as a”beautiful country” if you live in China, so please, how about ‘region’ instead?
